Two papers, one house.

Laid & Wove publishes puzzle books for people who know a subject well and like to prove it.

The house

The name

Laid paper is the old sheet, made by hand on a mould of wires that leaves its lines in the paper. Wove paper is smoother: James Whatman's wove sheet was used for John Baskerville's 1757 Virgil, and became the modern standard. We like both: the hand and the machine, the old craft and the clean page.

What we make

Books that test how well you know the things you love. Real puzzles in a dozen formats, properly made objects, one subject at a time. Golf is first.

How we make them

Questions are researched and checked against sources, then played by people who know the subject. Then we design the book to be kept: hardback, warm paper, room to write.

Independent

We're an independent publisher. Our books are not affiliated with or endorsed by any governing body, club or player.

Who we are

Laid & Wove was started by Graham and Jason, one of whom does the designing and one of whom does the arithmetic. Neither will say who wins the arguments.

Good puzzles. Better weekends.
